meet the acclaimed candidates!
For the past one year I have been working with the MSA as Vice President Internal and was very fortunate to help so many students. I really think I am the perfect fit for this role because all my life starting from high school, I have been working with students to help succeed in their academic career as a student leader and as a student president in my previous college where I did my bachelors in business marketing. I was also lucky to spend 160 hours in my first two semesters being a volunteer for various clubs in Mohawk college. It helped me to meet new people and even helped me to be a part of MSA. I believe it represents my passion to learn and experience different perspectives in life by meeting people from various backgrounds. As an International student I know how the students try to balance their academic and social life here in Canada and I assure that I will make it better for every student in each and very possible way within my limits. If I get elected my top two priorities would be giving more financial assistance to the students who are in need and the other one would be creating a platform where the students can get a job with respect to their own professional area. My idea is to create a club with the Mohawk Alumni members so that they can help and guide each student to get a job in their own field. I believe it also help to increase student engagement as the students get to talk with alumni who is already employed to get as many inputs they can.
Vice President, Finance (Acclaimed)
Over the last year I have had the pleasure of sitting on the MSA board of directors as the Vice President of Finance. I have come to really enjoy the challenge of a new position and believe that i know what it takes to do the right job. I am currently a student in the Journalism program and it has really helped me when it comes to writing the reports and updates as required by the position. Having been the VP Finance for the last year I had some goals going into the year that I wanted to explore, but due to the pandemic and other problems I was unable to really explore these ideas, so those are some things I’m hoping to explore in the next year If I was to get the position. Having been both a student and a board member for the last year, I have seen the drop in engagement from students and that is something I hope to work on in the next year as I believe students are missing out on so many great services and activities provided by the MSA. One thing I want to work on for the next year is exploring the possibility of saving students money in whatever way possible. I would also like to see a newsletter that students could subscribe to that would give them all the information on upcoming events and services from the MSA. These are just a few of the reasons that I hope to be on the MSA board of directors for the 2021-2022 year.
Vice-President, Internal Advocacy (Acclaimed)
Hello fellow Mohawk students,
Hope you are doing well and hopping right into another awesome day.
My name is Ruth. I am a student in my second program here at Mohawk and loving it. I’m also a person who loves contests and the general hustle and bustle of student life. As a student passionate about my learning here at Mohawk I am excited to take on the role of Vice president of internal affairs and thankful for this opportunity. As an advocate, I hope to be a voice not just for myself but for others as well on our journey of growing, learning and succeeding.
Having previously taken on leadership roles as an MSA student rep and as a peer tutor, I feel equipped to take on the task of this role. My top two priorities is to ensure fellow students feel heard and to work with the student leadership body in providing students opportunities for personal growth.
Thank you so much for this opportunity and I look forward to working with and for all of you. Have a great day!
Director, IAHS Campus (Acclaimed)
My name is Samira Malik and I am currently in the RPN-BScN Level 3 program. Previously, I am also a Mohawk alumn as I graduated from the Practical Nursing program.
I have had the honour of being on the Board of Directors for the past 3 years. In my time at the MSA, I have been able to advocate for my fellow health sciences students specifically at the IAHS campus.
If elected, I promise to always make myself available to listen to student concerns, and continue to advocate on behalf of IAHS students. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, please reach out to me with any questions you may have.
Mohawk College Student Governor (Acclaimed)
My name is Shelby McEachern. I am in Year 1 of my CE Program Libraries and Digital Technologies. I am interested in running for the Board of Governors because I want to be a voice for the students on what they like about the college and also what they think needs improvement about the college.
I am the best candidate to be on the Board of Governors because I will listen to all of the students who need an issue raised to the Board of Governors. My Mohawk College email is open to anyone who needs an issue raised or wants to suggest something to make the college even better.
My past volunteer experience is that for a year I was in the OALT/ABO council as the Chapter Coordinator from May 2017 to November 2018. If elected, I would bring the leadership skills of speaking the ideas that the students want brought up, I would be a listener to what the students want for the college, and I also am good with reasoning and bargaining. My hobbies and interests are video games, creating fan made videos (also known as AMVs), reading, writing, and researching things for my friends and family if needed.
I want to be a leader and make a difference to the student body. I want to be a voice for the student body. I want to help make positive changes to the Mohawk College community. Give me a chance to be there for the student body.

What is the MSA Elections?
The MSA is run by students for students. As a result, each year an election is held so students can vote for the MSA Board of Directors for the following school year. The MSA Board of Directors represents Mohawk students as a whole while governing the Association.
